Dr. W. Dale Compton
Vice President for Scientific Research
Ford Motor Company
P. O. Box 2053
Dearborn, Michigan 48121

Dear Dr. Compton:

\J	Thank-you for referring me to Mr. Davis, and I hope that he will be able to find
someone to express the automobile industry's thinking on long term planning.
Frankly, I am a bit worried that he will come up with someone only qualified
to express a public relations position, in which case we would be unable to
invite him. I am enclosing a copy of my letter to Mr. Davis.

The \F1Future of Cars--Energy, Environment and Economics\F0
segment of the annual meeting of the
AAAS to be held January 27-31, 1975 in New York
is scheduled for January 27-28, 1975. The symposium will be meet in the
Regency Ballroom of the Americana Hotel.
There will be a morning and an afternoon session on each day; each session
consisting of four speakers, a panel discussion and questions from the floor.
The proposed timing is one half hour for each speaker and one hour for
panel discussion and open questioning. The session on the long term future
is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, January 28th.

I am wondering if you received the impression when I mentioned that
Dr. Eric Stork of the Environmental Protection Agency had recommended you
that he was "passing the buck". He is, in fact, participating himself--
discussing the short term policy issues. He recommended you as someone
who would be able to take a broad point of view on the long term future.

I enclose a copy of the draft announcement of the symposium.\.

							Sincerely yours,
